Infectious Disease and Inflammation Models

Interests

We are developing novel therapeutics to slow down inflammation and repair damage to human tissues with the vision of restoring normal function. We use multi-disciplinary tools involving engineering, materials and biology to investigate the effects of stress eg. cytokines, heat, environment on inflammatory signalling pathways. Human tissues include placenta, membranes, cartilage and disc. Our research efforts are focused on translational investigation with the aim of delivering novel therapeutics that restore a healthy ageing phenotype. For example, Tina Chowdhury is Chief Investigator for a clinical trial (NCT06340971) investigating how the environment affects pregnancy outcomes and preterm birth (REC 24/EE/0047) with the clinical teams at UCLH NHS Trust (Anna David) and Barts Health NHS Trust (Stamatina Iliodromiti).
